What level is this app for?
You can start once you have a little foundation: you can read hiragana and katakana, and you know some basic vocabulary. If you are starting from zero, learn the kana first with another tool.
I already use other Japanese study methods. Can EasyJP fit alongside them?
Yes, but it is worth rethinking the priority. A lot of comprehensible input is central to language acquisition. If your time is limited, put more of it into listening and reading; grammar rules will gradually become internalized through real sentences.
Does listening without speaking really help?
Before you can speak, you need something to say. Krashen's research argues that input is a necessary condition for language acquisition, while output is more of a test: The Input Hypothesis (1985). Once you have built up enough understanding, speaking becomes much more natural.
If the content is too easy, is that a waste of time?
"Easy" does not mean useless. Krashen's i+1 principle says the most effective input is just a little above your current level: you can follow the overall meaning, with a small number of unfamiliar words mixed in. やさしい日本語 is designed around that idea, so you can focus on feel and rhythm instead of guessing every word.
Will new content keep being added?
Yes. New content will be added from time to time. The initial plan is to finish rewriting 50 to 100 books in 2026.
Can I choose topics I am interested in?
Yes. You can filter by topic and difficulty, then start with what you actually care about. Interest makes it much easier to keep listening.
When should I turn off aids like kana readings and JLPT markings?
There is no fixed time. When an aid is turned on but you no longer really look at it, you can turn it off. It is better to turn them off one by one instead of all at once.
Do I need to maintain vocabulary status manually?
Words you look up are recorded automatically. "Learning" and "known" are labels you set yourself. They are optional, and normal reading works fine without using them.
Can I only listen without looking at the text?
Yes. But synced audio and text are a core part of EasyJP. Using them together usually works better, especially at the beginning.
Is there an app version?
There is no standalone app yet, but EasyJP supports PWA. Open the website in your browser, choose "Add to Home Screen", and then you can launch it from your home screen like a normal app. A dedicated app version may come later.
Will my progress be saved? Can it sync across devices?
Reading progress and vocabulary status are saved. Sign in with the same account to sync them across devices.
What is free, and what does paid access unlock?
Some content is available for free. Paid access unlocks Pro audio for the full catalog. You can check each content page to see what requires a subscription.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel at any time. After cancellation, access remains active through the current subscription period.
